Nature in Poitou-Charentes

A special area in this region is the Marais Poitevin Natural Park. Also called the green Venice, because the flora and fauna can be discovered by boat. Culture in the region

A very important cultural event is the Festival des Nuits Romanes. Every year in the summer some 170 performances are performed in various cities. Part of the pilgrimage route to Santiago de Compostella runs through the Poitou-Charentes. Not surprisingly there is a lot of Romanesque heritage to be found, such as the Abbey of Saint-Savin-sur-Gartempe and the Abbey of Dames de Saintes. Throughout the region there are several forts, museums, historic towns and castles where you can discover all the culture.
